GLOBAL MEDICAL SUPPORT

Medical Outreach Program

AmeriCares Medical Outreach Program supplies medicines and medical supplies to U.S.-based health care professionals who travel overseas to provide volunteer medical care to people in desperate need of help.

In 2010, the program provided nearly $62 million worth of critical medicines and supplies to 1,061 teams traveling to 71 countries and also supported charitable orthopedic surgeries in the U.S. In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti last January, AmeriCares supplied 200 medical teams travelling there to treat survivors.

The Medical Outreach teams are supplied with a range of medications to treat pain, fever, hypertension, diabetes and other common health concerns that often go untreated in the absence of access to primary health care. In addition, a team may also take topical ointments, vitamins and nutritional supplements as well as supplies for dental and ophthalmic care. For the many surgical teams, AmeriCares provides anesthesia, syringes and a wide range of other surgical products.

To provide vital health care services and save lives through our Medical Outreach Program we depend on 3 things:

  • Skilled and dedicated American health care professionals who independently provide critical medical care as volunteers serving people in need around the world.
  • Our partners in the pharmaceutical and medical supply industries who provide millions of dollars of products each year for our distribution to the teams we support.
  • Contributions from individuals that help us deliver the medicines and medical supplies to the doctors, nurses, dentists, and other medical professionals who will provide health care to people in desperate need. Donate Now »
